BNC S/PDIF and Transformer Coupling

The Aeris supports a coaxial BNC connection due to the fact that the BNC connection guarantees that the input impedance remains stable at a nominal 75 ohms. In addition, both the Aeris BNC S/PDIF digital inputs achieve galvanic isolation of the incoming signal through transformer coupling. Total galvanic isolation is achieved by implementing transformer coupling also at the XLR balanced analog outputs.

The Aeris has implemented transformer coupling on the BNC S/PDIF inputs through the PE65812NL by Pulse Engineering Inc, a transformer optimized for digital signal transmission. This surface-mount part was selected because its wide bandwidth supports a sample rate up to 192 KHz.
